The use of peat

In North America, peat is mainly used for the horticulture sector, such as growing substrates. It is particularly popular for its waterand minerals retention qualities. These features also improve the quality of a substrate to which it is mixed.

In Europe, peat is used as fuel and has long been useful for heating homes. Peat is harvested with a shovel and dried directly in the bog, or compacted in the form of bricks.

Over the years, the use of peat multiplied. It is used as absorbent material for oil spills and as biofilter for the treatment of sewage, in shampoos, spas, sanitary napkins, animal bedding, as well as in the manufacture of whiskeys, etc.
